Israeli excavations damage Palestinian homes in Jerusalem

Israeli excavations under Jerusalem’s Old city damage Palestinians homes, Palestinian watchdog reported on Mondays.

A report issued by Wadi al-Hilweh Information Centre said that the Israeli excavations caused deep fissures and cracks in the houses of Silwan’s neighbourhood of Wadi al-Hilweh in the occupied holy city.

In the wake of serious damage happened to the ground floor of her house, a Palestinian old woman moved to her sons’ house.

The report quoted Dawood Siyam saying: “Cracks first appeared in all seven apartments of his family’s building some three months ago as a result of the excavations, and that they had widened noticeably in the past few days.”

According to the report, a nearby home belonging to the Sarafandi family also suffered from serious cracks in the floor and damage to its utility network.

“Cracks and collapses only used to happen in Wadi Hilweh structures and streets during the winter,” the report said.

It added: “Recently old cracks have widened and new ones have started to appear, which indicates that the Israeli occupation has intensified excavation works under the area.”

The Israeli occupation carries out these excavations, trying to find any archaeological proofs about claimed rights in the holy spot.
