Israeli forces destroy Martyrs’ Garden in Jerusalem

Days of Palestine, Jerusalem -Israeli occupation forces have destroyed Martyrs’ Garden in occupied Jerusalem and uprooted 47 olive trees.

The Israeli demolition of the Garden, which is located in Ras al-Amud Neighbourhood of the Old City, came in the wake of a Palestinian event during which the Palestinians planted 47 olive trees in memory of 47 Palestinians killed during the ongoing intifada.

During the same event, the Palestinians also placed posters for the 47 Palestinians martyrs, and spray-painted graffiti on nearby walls praising the martyrs and criticising the Israeli violations.

Eyewitness said that the Israeli occupation police and Israeli municipality officials approached the Garden and destroyed it.

Palestinians sources said that the Israeli occupation and the Israeli municipality of the occupied holy city claimed that the Garden was established without the needed permits from the Israeli authorities.

The Israeli Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan hailed the Israeli violation against the Garden. “I welcome the quick and determined action taken in Ras al-Amud,” Erdan said, calling for the Israeli police to continue to act “decisively” against Palestinians.

He also called for ending all sings of memorials for Palestinians murdered by the Israeli occupation forces, as well as mass funerals.

Israeli occupation wiped off the graffiti and launched an investigation into the event, pledging to bring all Palestinians behind the establishment of the Garden to court.
