Israeli Knesset passes law expelling Arab members

Days of Palestine, Jerusalem -Israeli occupation parliament (Knesset) passed on Tuesday night law allows expelling Arab members over their support for Palestine issue.

The law, which was presented by Nissan Slomiansky from the Jewish Home, passed the second and third readings in a 62-47 vote.

MKs from Meretz and Zionist Union protested the law. Arab MKs, who are the target of this law, including Ahmed Tibi and Jamal Zahalka, slammed the law. MKs from Meretz and from the Zionist Union vocally protested the proposal as well.

During the vote on the law, the Arab MKs were outraged and said frankly that this law is targeting them due to their support for the Palestinian cause.

Commenting on the issue, Opposition Leader Issac Herzog said: “If we know that MKs can oust another MK, it would be a black mark in the history of the Knesset.”

Later on, he wrote on Twitter: “The ‘Ouster Law’ is a black stain on the State of Israel. The government of hate is busy widening the rift threatening the State of Israel more than any outside enemy.”

Zionist Union MK Yoel Hasson shouted at Jerusalem Minister Ze’ev Elkin, supporter of the law, saying: “You have ruined the country, you’ve buried democracy. You have no God.”

The legislation stipulates if a person acts or objectives serve to reject the right of the State of Israel to exist as a Jewish and democratic state; incite to racism; support an armed struggle and more will be expelled if at least 70 MKs voted against him.
