Israeli occupation prevents Palestinian farmers from picking up olives

Israeli occupation forces prevented on Sunday Palestinian farmers occupied West Bank district of Ramallah from picking up olives from their farms.

Local sources said that the Israeli occupation forces stopped the Palestinians from the village of Nilin while they were in their way to pick up olives from their farms behind the racist Israeli Separation Wall.

The Palestinian farmers had permits from the Israeli occupation authorities to enter the area, but were denied anyway.

Palestinians living in the areas where the Israeli Separation Wall cuts off their lands, are required to obtain entry permits, and cannot enter their lands for any purpose other than work or residence.

During the olive harvest season, an essential time of the year for Palestinian farmers whose main source of income is often olive produce, Palestinians are regularly turned around by Israeli occupation forces, attacked by the Jewish settlers or only given few days to harvest hundreds of olive trees.

Since the beginning of olive harvest season earlier this month, several incidents of Israeli Jewish settlers attacking Palestinians while picking their olives have been reported.

The Palestinian government has no jurisdiction over Israelis in the West Bank and violent acts carried out by Israeli settlers often occur in the presence of Israeli military forces who rarely act to protect Palestinian residents.
