The Foreign Ministry’s digital diplomacy recorded an unprecedented success in 2020 when its social media activities reached over one billion people around the world.

With some 300 diplomats operating online through 800 various social media channels, content about Israel and from Israel was published in 50 languages, much of the content read and viewed in the Arabic-speaking world.

The digital diplomacy team marked a milestone in June when its social media campaign to the Farsi-speaking world, and specifically Iran, reached 500,000 followers of its Farsi Instagram account.

M.Reza Noroozpour, Deputy of the Iranian Government’s Spokesman, was found in June to be following the Israeli Foreign Ministry’s Persian-Language Twitter account.

More than 1.5 million Arabic speakers from 22 Arab countries follow Israel in Arabic on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, with content viewed hundreds of millions of times annually.

The use of social media enables Israel to share a message of diversity, peace, and coexistence, as well as information on current political and security developments with millions around the world, the Foreign Ministry explained.

Yiftah Curiel, head of Digital Diplomacy at the Foreign Ministry, said: “Digital [media] is a power multiplier, builds communities, and produces impact.”
