Italy eyes hospital building coop. with Iran

TEHRAN, Feb. 23 (MNA) – Italian parliamentary delegation in Tehran have expressed eagerness to collaborate with Iran in areas of hospital construction and equipment.

The visiting parliamentary delegation of Italy consisting of Laura Bianconi, Senator in the Health Commission of Italy, as well as Benedetto Adrania, former head of the Italian Parliament, met with head of Tehran’s Management and Planning Organization Nematollah Torki exchanging views in various fields.

Iran’s Nematollah Torki welcomed the Italian group asserting “more than 97 per cent of the country’s medicine demand is being domestically produced offering great potentials for medical production unlike the past; in addition, more than 700 specialized hospitals exist in Iran while some provinces are active at an international level for medical services.”

Torki further expressed Iran’s readiness to cooperate with Italy in various areas like hospital construction and equipment as well as tourist treatment due to high tourism capacities; “infrastructures are ready and required licenses have been received providing the ground for foreign investors to initiate activities.”

The official noted that 10 Iranian cities have been identified for development of therapeutic, clinical and hospital building areas promising foreign investors a guaranteed return of investment in any desired field.

Torki also voiced readiness to receive Italian investors in several fields including transportation, water and waste water treatment plants, solar energy, converting waste to energy as well as water desalination with the participation of the private sector.

Senator in the Health Commission of Italy Laura Bianconi voiced satisfaction towards visiting Iran commenting “today, competition is very tough in the field of health especially with regard to low costs and good quality; Italy has always respected Iran’s strong and traditional health system being willing to collaborate with Iran in areas of hospital construction, its equipment as well as transfer of new technologies.

“We are ready to establish medical centers in any Iranian city and we call for stronger connections between Iranian and Italian physicians and experts,” she added.

Bianconi went on to add that Italian companies are eager to jointly produce medicine with Iranian counterparts particularly in view of the removal of sanctions which has paved the way for boosting bilateral ties.

Also at the meeting, former head of the Italian Parliament Benedetto Adrania pointed to Iran’s good situation for investment highlighting “considering Iran’s capabilities and capacities, Italy proposes to undertake management of medical centers in addition to construction of hospitals and their equipment.”

He further recommended that Iran could take advantage of Italian investment in areas of road construction, light railroad as well as conversion of waste to energy.

Senator Adrania also announced the plan to open Italian banks in Iran; “the issue has been put on the agenda and will become operational in near future facilitating economic relations of the two countries.”
