It’s All in the Timing

Its All in the Timing

Although I voted for the Labour Party in the recent general election, I’m not disappointed they didn’t win the thing. The explanation for this apparent contradiction is easy to see.

Britain is a mess – the inevitable consequence of almost forty years of capitalist “austerity”. And as a direct consequence of thirty years of craven, mostly illegal warmongering in the Middle East and North Africa, we have helped the US create the worst global refugee crisis since WW2, and fashion a monster in the shape of Islamic terrorism that now stalks the streets of Britain. Add to all this the fact that we are about to part company with our largest trading partner, with almost no possibility of recovering from that inevitable disaster anytime soon, and it’s pretty clear to see that no one in their right minds should want to be in charge of such a country. It’s the perfect political storm.

This is a catastrophe that’s been wholly made by Tories. They have, after all, been in charge for four decades. So the Tories must be given the time to clean up the mess they made. I’m pretty sure they’ll fail. But the failure must be a Tory failure, and it must be seen by everyone to be another Tory failure. If there was another general election within a year or two, and if Labour were to buy the dummy and win it, it would also likely fail. It’s all about getting the timing right.

Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonnell have the ideas that could rescue Britain, but most of the people are not yet ready for those ideas. After four decades of relentless brainwashing by the Tory media that’s perfectly understandable. Nothing the Tories would do can save our country, but the people need to see them fail. That will take about five years – five years which Labour could use to consolidate themselves by restoring their traditional socialist values, and to begin preparing the population for the radical systemic changes we desperately need. Then, and only then, should Corbyn and McDonnell ride to the rescue. For the next few years, however, let those who fashioned the poisoned chalice of a semi-fascist Brexit Britain be the first to sup from it.
