Jeremy Corbyn has claimed that 9/11 was “manipulated” to make it look like Osama Bin Laden was responsible to allow the West to go to war in Afghanistan.

In a series of further articles, Mr Corbyn also appears to endorse controversial conspiracy theories about a “New World Order”.

Corbyn is expected to say that Labour will ‘never make the same mistake again’

Jeremy Corbyn is set to use his first conference speech as Labour leader to apologise on behalf of his party for taking Britain into war in Iraq.

In a sign of how Mr Corbyn wants to reshape the public’s view of the party under his leadership, he is expected to say that Labour has learnt its lesson from the conflict and will “never make the same mistake again”.

He will add that in future Britain’s role in international affairs needs to change to the promotion of conflict resolution and co-operation rather than using UK forces to achieve regime change.

Israeli forces have once again attacked Palestinians at al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East al-Quds (Jerusalem), amid a fresh wave of violence in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The clashes erupted at the holy site on Sunday, the last day of the Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday.

The fresh skirmishes come as tensions in and around the compound have been on the rise in recent weeks.

Israeli soldiers have attacked and injured dozens of Palestinians in rallies held against Tel Aviv’s military assaults on the al-Aqsa Mosque, which started on September 13.

The recent wave of violence has seen Israeli settlers and soldiers attacking Palestinian worshipers following the deployment of Israeli troops to the area for the Jewish Rosh Hashanah New Year holiday.

Last month, Israel imposed harsh restrictions on entries into the al-Aqsa Mosque, especially limiting the entry of Palestinians into the compound.

Secretary General of the Palestine Liberation Organization Saeb Erekat (AFP photo)

The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) says new rules that allow Israeli forces to target Palestinian protesters in the occupied territories with live bullets “dehumanize” Palestinians.

PLO Secretary General Saeb Erekat on Saturday described the measures as “a mere pretext to justify the escalating Israeli crimes against the people of Palestine.”

The Tel Aviv regime “continues to incite against Palestinian lives, with a culture of hate that dehumanizes a whole nation,” the PLO chief stated.

Erekat said Palestinians would hold the regime of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accountable for the “new crimes to be committed under this new regulation.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Palestinian official said Palestinians would report violations of international law committed by the Israeli forces to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Israeli forces have shot and wounded the Nablus police chief and his three-year-old daughter in the occupied West Bank, an official says.

Murad Ishteiwi, a senior official with the Palestinian Fatah movement, told the Ma’an news agency that Colonel Abd al-Latif al-Qaddumi and her daughter Maram sustained injuries after being shot by rubber-coated steel bullets during a Friday assault by Israeli soldiers in the town of Kafr Qaddum, near the occupied West Bank city of Qalqilya.

Ishteiwi said that the child was directly shot in the head while she was standing on a balcony in her home as Israeli forces raided the town to prevent the weekly Kafr Qaddum march.

Maram’s father attempted to take her to the hospital with his car, but Israeli forces opened fire and wounded him in the head, the official added. However, their injuries have been diagnosed as moderate.

Israeli forces regularly storm Palestinian villages, farms, and houses, inflicting physical damage and psychological trauma.

US Congressional study expected to paint a bleak picture, suggesting US-led airstrikes haven’t slowed Islamic State recruitment

In late July the three slipped into Germany with their wives and children, using illegal documents. They live together in a five-bedroom house, rented for them by Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government, a 40-minute drive away from Giessen, which is home to the biggest migrants’ camp in the country. US intelligence fears nearly 30,000 foreign fighters have traveled to Iraq and Syria since 2011, many of them to join the Islamic State group, The New York Times reported Saturday.

The number, which reportedly includes many westerners including perhaps 250 Americans, represents a doubling of last year’s US assessment and will dismay US war planners.

The New York Times’ report cites anonymous “intelligence and law enforcement officials.”

In recent weeks, there have been allegations that the US military has been playing down the IS threat in intelligence reports, to paint a rosier picture of its efforts.

But US President Barack Obama will on Tuesday next week chair an international summit on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly for leaders fighting the IS group and “violent extremism.”

(JTA) — Jeremy Corbyn, the newly elected leader of Britain’s Labor Party, claimed more than a decade ago that Osama bin Laden was framed for 9/11.

Corbyn wrote in a 2003 article for the London-based Morning Star newspaper that the United States and Britain made it look like bin Laden, the head of al-Qaida, was responsible for the attacks in order to allow the West to go to war in Afghanistan, the British daily newspaper The Telegraph reported over the weekend.

“Historians will study with interest the news manipulation of the past 18 months,” Corbyn wrote in 2003 in the Morning Star, a Socialistpublication. “After September 11, the claims that bin Laden and al-Qaida had committed the atrocity were quickly and loudly made. This was turned into an attack on the Taliban and then, subtly, into regime change in Afghanistan.”

Corbyn, who has been accused of being anti-Israel, was criticized in the days before winning the Labor leadership on Sept. 12 after saying it was a “tragedy” that bin Laden was killed before he could be put on trial for the 9/11 attacks.

WASHINGTON (JTA) – Israel’s most recent military chief of staff called the Iran nuclear deal an “achievement.”

“I do agree a better deal could have been reached,” one that more extensively restricted uranium enrichment, Benny Gantz said Friday of the sanctions relief for nuclear restrictions deal reached in July between Iran and six major powers.

“But I see the half-full part of the glass,” he said. “I see the achievement of keeping the Iranians, 10-15 years into the future, postponing their having a nuclear capability at the right price.”

Gantz, a retired lieutenant general whose five years as military chief of staff ended in February, spoke at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, a think tank with close ties to the U.S. and Israeli governments.

Bush said that among his supporters since his days as Florida governor are “members of the Jewish community who have welcomed me into their homes for Passover Seder, taken me as a travel companion to Israel and worked with me on issues of shared concern, such as religious freedom, school choice and economic opportunity,” according to a statement issued Friday by the campaign.

“Having their support has meant so much, and we are looking to build that team,” Bush said.

A number of the 75 listed supporters are Floridians, but a substantive portion is also associated with the presidency of his brother. They include Joshua Bolten, the former president’s chief of staff; Michael Mukasey, his attorney general; a number of liaisons to the Jewish community during the Bush presidency; and major George W. Bush fundraisers, including Mel Sembler and Fred Zeidman.

Also included is Eric Cantor, the former congressman who until last year was the majority leader in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Israeli authorities are attempting to kill hunger-striking Palestinian prisoners by denying them treatment, a Palestinian committee says.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Palestinian Authority’s committee for prisoners said the Israeli regime is “trying to kill” inmates who have been on hunger for nearly six weeks.

“Israeli government is wearing down the prisoners on purpose in order to force them to end their hunger strike by depriving them of medical treatment and sending them to prison wards where criminal prisoners are being held,” the statement said.

The statement came after Israeli authorities turned down the committee’s requests for at least seven Palestinian hunger strikers to be transferred to hospital for treatment.

The men have been consuming only water, and have refused any other supplements, the statement said, noting that the prisoners have lost “all power and strength.”

The prisoners are said to be protesting their so-called administrative detention in the Nafha jail in southern Israel.

The administrative detention is a sort of imprisonment without trial or charge that allows Israel to incarcerate Palestinians for up to six months. The detention order can be renewed for indefinite periods of time.

CAIRO — Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi on Saturday said the security measures taken by his country along the border with Gaza were not aimed at “harming” Palestinians.

“The measures taken by Egypt to secure its eastern borders are in full coordination with the Palestinian Authority and cannot have the aim of harming our Palestinian brothers in the Gaza Strip,” Sissi was quoted as saying in a statement sent by his office.

“The measures seek to protect the Egyptian borders and maintain Egyptian and Palestinian national security,” it added.

The Egyptian leader reportedly made the comments during a meeting with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in New York, where they are attending the United Nations General Assembly.

Egypt began creating a wide buffer zone along the Gaza border in late 2014 in a bid to destroy the hundreds of smuggling tunnels Cairo says are used by Palestinian activists to deliver weapons to jihadis who are battling Egyptian forces in the Sinai peninsula.

(JTA) — The Jewish Coalition for Syrian Refugees has awarded $148,000 in new grants to address the welfare of refugee women and children and to ensure psychosocial support for first responders.

The coalition of Jewish organizations, which two weeks ago expanded to address the needs of refugees and migrants in Europe (including Turkey), as well as in Jordan, announced on Thursday grants to World Jewish Relief, working in partnership with the International Blue Crescent, and to the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, working in partnership with the Turkish Jewish Community and IBC as well as with two local Hungarian NGOs, Menedek and the Student Counseling Center of Szeged University.

Since expanding its efforts, the coalition, a subgroup of the Jewish Coalition for Disaster Relief, has raised more than $200,000, on top of the more than $500,00 it had raised for its work in Jordan since 2013.

“While the Jewish humanitarian response to this crisis emerges from the Jewish people’s historic experience of displacement, our focus on vulnerable refugee women and children and the care of first responders represents our desire to provide immediate relief for those whose burdens are be disproportionately felt in a situation of this magnitude,” Will Recant, who coordinates the coalition, said in a news release issued by the coalition.

(JTA) — A pro-Palestinian minister spoke at an alternative location after an upstate New York divinity school revoked a speaking invitation over death threats and local Jewish opposition.

The Rev. Graylan Hagler, a senior minister of the Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, spoke Thursday night at the German House in Rochester under the auspices of Jewish Voice for Peace-Rochester and Christians Witnessing for Palestine on “Connecting the Dots: Ferguson to Palestine.”

The Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School in Rochester had disinvited Hagler, the Democrat & Chronicle reported last week.

“I’m standing here to lift up the dignity and rights of all people in the world,” he told the some 250 audience members, according to the Jewish Voice for Peace, a group that promotes the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against Israel. “We have to stand up and tell the truth: Black lives matter, Palestinian lives matter, Palestine matters! We need to demand justice!”

An aide to Boehner, the Republican House speaker who is quitting, dropped the bombshell Friday: Boehner had wanted to step down last year but Majority “Leader [Eric] Cantor’s loss in his primary changed that calculation.”

So reported the Huffington Post’s Sam Stein and Ryan Grim, who do not name the aide.

As majority leader, Cantor was already the highest ranking Jewish legislator in U.S. history. Some say he was the highest-ranking Jewish government official, but it’s not clear majority leader bests secretary of state, a post held by Henry Kissinger in the 1970s.

French military launches its first airstrikes against ISIS targets in Syria on Sunday, adding a new front to the European nation’s existing campaign against ISIS in Iraq. France said on Sunday it launched its first air strikes in Syria, destroying an Islamic State training camp in the east of the country to prevent the group from carrying out attacks against French interests and to protect Syrian civilians.
France had until now only struck Islamic State targets in neighbouring Iraq, carrying out just 3 percent of air strikes in an offensive on the group by a US-led coalition. France has also provided limited logistical support to Syrian rebels it considers moderate, including Kurds.

Relations worsen as Ambassador Sergey Andreev suggests Soviet invasion of Poland was in self-defense; Poland: Ambassador ‘undermining historical truth.’ The Russian ambassador to Poland has sparked outrage for putting some of the blame for World War II on Poland, creating a new spat amid deepening tensions between the Slavic nations.
Russian Ambassador Sergey Andreev on Friday described the Soviet’s 1939 invasion of Poland as an act of self-defense, not aggression. The comment prompted Poland’s Foreign Ministry to declare Saturday that the ambassador “undermines historical truth” and seems to be trying to justify Stalinist crimes.
