Leila Steinberg (born December 18, 1961) is a manager, business woman, educator, writer, poet, dancer, singer and founder of (Assemblies In Motion), a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to helping at-risk youth find their voice using the arts and athletics.
Steinberg is the artist mentor and first manager for “superstar” rapper, Tupac Shakur who came to her writing workshop, The Microphone Sessions, in the Oakland Bay area.

During his time in art school, Tupac Shakur became affiliated with the Baltimore Young Communist League USA and dated the daughter of the director of the local Communist Party USA.
In June 1988, Shakur and his family moved to Marin City, California, a residential community 5 miles north of San Francisco, where he attended Tamalpais High School in nearby Mill Valley. He attended the poetry classes of Leila Steinberg in 1989; and in the same year Steinberg organized a concert for a former Shakur group, “Strictly Dope”. As a result of the concert Shakur signed with Atron Gregory who set him up as a roadie and backup dancer with the hip hop group Digital Underground in 1990.
At a park, Tupac overheard Leila Steinberg reading Winnie Mandela’s A Part of My Soul Went With Him. He said, “That’s a good one. It really moves well.” They talked for a while and Leila offered him a room in her Sonoma County house, and Tupac made her the manager of his group, Strictly Dope.

Steinberg was born in Los Angeles, California. Her mother was an activist of Mexican and Turkish descent and her father was a criminal defense lawyer of Polish Jewish descent.
During the late 1980s Steinberg was a backup dancer and singer touring with world music icons, O.J Ekemode & The Nigerian Allstars. She also shared the stage with Santana, Bo Diddley, The Neville Brothers, The Spinners, Burning Spear and Jimmy Cliff. As a veteran music industry executive she served as a marketer with Atlantic Records, Sony, Def Jam, Tommy Boy, Interscope, and Relativity.
While living in the San Francisco Bay Area, Leila came to know of a promising recording artist named 2Pac in 1995. After a fateful meeting in Spring 1995, she opened her home where he read and wrote under her encouragement.

The Microphone Sessions (TMS) is a writing workshop started by Leila Steinberg and Tupac Shakur that develops and facilitates spoken word, poetry, musical, hip-hop, pop and dance, jazz, and rock ‘n roll singing and dramatic performances. Weekly gatherings are held all around the world that are guided by Steinberg trained artist-educators.
