Kennel Owner Charged Following The Discovery Of 21 Dead Hunting Dogs At His Kennel

A Virginia man is facing felony animal cruelty charges following the discovery of 21 dead hunting dogs at his kennel. According to multiple sources, a tip led the authorities to kennels operated by Floyd McNeil Maitland, of Dinwiddie County.

The grim discovery was made on Friday at property located on Boydton Plank Road – officers found 21 deceased Walker hounds and one dog who was still alive. The lone survivor has been transported to a veterinarian for care and is expected to survive.

As reported by WHSV News, more charges may be forthcoming.

As the investigation moves forward additional charges may be brought in the case,” a spokesperson said. Back in 2011, Maitland was arrested and faced eight misdemeanor counts concerning the care of animals. Those charges were set aside by the court.

The surviving dog is expected to fully recover. The deceased dogs were taken to the Lynchburg Regional Animal Health Laboratory to determine cause of death.
