Kharrazi: Terrorist groups; tool in hand of certain regional states

IRNA — Seyyed Kamal Kharrazi, the president of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, says terrorist groups have turned into a tool in the hands of certain regional countries.

Kharrazi made the remarks addressing the two-day conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in China’s capital.

Some 200 representatives of the member-states are attending the meeting.

“Besides certain regional states, west, especially the US, have through their military intervention either in Iraq or Syria have provided an extensive atmosphere for activities of terrorist groups.”

Kharrazi noted that the intervention of regional and ultra-regional powers for change of systems in the region not only deprives people of the chance for appropriate political changes, but also creates so much instability and extensive homelessness, poverty and hunger in certain countries like Syria, Libya, Iraq and Yemen.

He said one can hardly imagine a promising short- and even mid-term prospect for the countries.

Kharrazi added that the reality is that political structures in certain Persian Gulf Arab states are so that nothing will be gained from their intellectual products other than such groups as Daesh, al-Qaeda and Boko Haram.

“Such groups are product of mixing of religious extremism like Wahabism and a kind of tribal sovereignty.”

“Injection of the thought by Salafi extremist Muslims in mosques and fincial support for the youth, who consider other followers of religions, except their own religious group, as pagans – so should be beheaded, will not present an inspiring prospect for end to such violences.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Kharrazi said in any geographic zone or region, problems and tensions among countries of the region should be solved by countries of the same region without intervention of the ultra-regional powers.

“Of course, the UN can help the process and military intervention to topple systems, even if undemocratic systems, will not be a suitable solution as we witness the consequences in Yemen, Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria today.”

Elsewhere in his address, Kharrazi said successful experience of a region cannot be enforced in other regions as well because countries are different with each other from different points of view, especially in cultural aspects, and one can say any region of the world is exceptional and faces special problems to the extent that confrontation with security problems of the region needs its own special way.

He said security of the Middle East cannot be resolved without ending the Palestinian crisis and a way should be found to meet the rights of the Palestinian people who have been under difficult pressures of the Israeli regime since 1948. The right solutions are recourse to public votes and formation of a democratic government, comprising Muslims and local Christians of the land, he added.

The Middle East suffers from the ideology of addition of zero in connection with security issues and due to the same reason, the strategy of equal addition should be in place in the region, he commented.

“Though all achievements on any issue may not be equal, an appropriate achievement on security should be gained and this way, accepting order and security in the region is possible,” he added.

To the end of his remarks, Kharrazi referred to new China Silk Road and the so-called one-belt one-road and said Iran is ready to play an effective role in that connection.
