Tasmania’s next state budget is shaping as the likely catalyst for a fall out among Labor ranks.
After two days of speculation, the Infrastructure Minister David O’Byrne yesterday ruled out a future tilt at the top job.
“There is no challenge, I will not be challenging.”
But Mr O’Byrne indicated it depends on how the Premier and Treasurer Lara Giddings handles the next budget.
“We’ll be working now on the new budget, the next budget, and no doubt there’ll be much debate about what that looks like.”
The pair met in a late-afternoon meeting yesterday.
The Premier is understood to have shored up her support, after calling in her Labor colleagues to see where they stand.
