Man arrested over Melbourne party stabbing

A man has been arrested in a Melbourne hospital over a stabbing attack, while seeking treatment for his own wounds.

Police were seeking the man in connection to a fight between two men at a house party in which one man suffered life-threatening stab wounds to his chest and neck.

The men spilled from a party in a unit in Alphington onto the driveway of the unit complex about 2am (AEST) on Sunday, police say.

A 34-year-old Alphington man was raced to hospital in a critical condition as a result of the fight.

“One of the males received several stab wounds, two of which were to his upper body, a third to the back of his neck,” Detective Senior Constable Jim Kincade told reporters in Melbourne.

Police are now questioning a 34-year-old Mill Park man after arresting him just after midday at Royal Melbourne Hospital where he sought help for his own stab wound.

Police are asking people at the gathering and neighbours in Fulham Road to come forward with any information.

They are yet to interview the Alphington man, who remains in a serious but stable condition in intensive care.
