A public signing is being planned for a long awaited MOU to reopen a rail line in the region.

Five of the region’s councils – Cowra, Weddin, Harden, Young and Blayney, have been campaigning since 2009 to get the Blayney to Demondrille line running again.

The general manager of the Weddin Shire, Trevor Lobb, says a Memorandum of Understanding has been agreed on with the State Government and is being approved by the councils.

“We’re looking at organising a signing at the moment. So I’m not too sure what form that will take, it will depend greatly on when the minister is available and when we can work that in so, there’s probably more to follow on that one.

“We’re looking to arrange it in an area where it may be a public forum.”

Mr Lobb says the next step will be seeing what businesses would be interested in using the line.

“Well that frees the way for the government to start calling the expressions of interest, which we understand they’ll be doing within a reasonably short period after they get the signed MOU.

“So that will be aimed at pulling out all the interested operators and just seeing how they want to go about putting an expression of interest in.”
