nsnbc : The government of Mozambique and multinational partners ENI and Anadarko are set to sign the concession contract for the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Maritime Terminal in Area 1 and Area 4 of the Rovuma Basin, in northern Mozambique. The deal is set to signed on Thursday August 10, in the capital Maputo.
A press release distributed on Wednesday indicates that the contact will be signed by Mozambique’s Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy of Mozambique, Lectícia Klemens, by Fábio Castiglion of Eni East Africa, as well as by John Bretz of Anadarko Moçambique.
“The act follows the approval by the Council of Ministers and publication of Decrees 36/2017 and 37/2017, both of July 21, which approve the terms and conditions of the Concession Agreements of the installations to be used to unload construction materials and the LNG Maritime Terminal,” the press release said.
The LNG Maritime Terminal, Areas 1 and 4 of the Rovuma Basin, will be built at Ponta Afungi, Tungue Bay, district of Palma in the province of Cabo Delgado. On the same occasion, Letícia Klemens will also sign special licenses, related to natural gas development projects by ENI and Anadarko, with the Ministers of Land, Environment and Rural Development, Celso Correia, of the Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries, Agostinho Mondlane, and of Transport and Communications, Carlos Mesquita.
ENI leads a consortium, including Galp, which will develop a floating LNG production platform project for the Rovuma Basin Area 1 concession, while Anadarko is a concessionaire, also in a consortium, of Area 4, located the same region. The two consortia have identified natural gas reserves amounting to 200 trillion cubic feet in the Rovuma Basin. Mozambique aims to become the world’s second-largest exporter of LNG by the early to mid 2020s.
