New 24-hour helpline for defence families

DEFENCE families can now access a 24-hour helpline for advice and support.

The new service provides defence families with access to advice, support and a crucial connection to their local community 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“Having a loved one deployed on operation can be a difficult and emotional time for families,” Defence Personnel Minister Warren Snowdon said in a statement today.

“Having a service like this available around the clock is a small, but crucial way to make sure families don’t feel isolated.”

By picking up the telephone, ADF families are able to tap into support programs and services from the comfort of home.

The helpline is staffed by social workers and psychologists who can provide information on issues such as coping with deployment, helping children adjust to new schools, finding childcare services and community support programs, employment opportunities and education.

The service also provides assistance during crises and emergencies.

The Defence Family Helpline number is 1800 624 608.
