New Moon In Aries: Moving Forward In New Ways

Next Story

We are having a New Moon in Aries on April 15th/16th, depending on where you are located in the world. New Moon’s are the start of a new 29.5 day Lunar Cycle which ushers in a new wave of energy for the coming month. The themes of this New Moon are strongest over the following 10 days until we start to transition into the energies of the next Full Moon.

Mercury has ended its retrograde approximately 16 hours before this New Moon making this period extra significant in terms of a new forward momentum based on what has transpired during that time. This retrograde started on March 22/23, and although it can sometimes bring challenges and problems with communication, technology, schedules, commuting/vehicles, devices/appliances, its effect on our personal development is to help facilitate realizations, revisitation, and/or adjustments in certain areas of our lives.

During the transition from retrograde to forward, Mercury is ‘stationary’ which is when it appears nearly stopped in its orbit from our vantage point on Earth. It will slowly begin to move forward as it travels again through the same part of the zodiac as it was during the retrograde period until May 3rd. This is known as the ‘post shadow’ period which is when some of the themes and challenges of the retrograde get resolved and/or we achieve greater clarity around the areas of our lives that have been affected.

New Moon In Aries Conjunct Uranus

This New Moon is in the same sign which Mercury’s retrograde occurred in. When considering this and the fact that it is in the sign of Aries, it really emphasizes the moving forward themes and can even facilitate a fresh start as Aries is the first sign of the zodiac.

The Aries themes that have come up during the retrograde, and continue to play out over the coming weeks in this moon cycle, has to do with how we assert ourselves, our independence, our self-interests, and our individuality. In some cases, it could be connected to how we apply leadership or it could even have to do with how we handle aggression and anger. However, the areas of life that have been affected for you also depends on how it has been interacting with your natal birth chart based on your birth time.

This New Moon is applying towards a close conjunction with Uranus, which will definitely add its flavour to this lunar cycle. Uranus brings its themes of breakthroughs, freedom, separation, rebellion, innovation, instability, new experiences, excitement, surprises, as well as sudden changes, accidents, or disruptions. This energy will be strong in the first  3-4 days following this New Moon, however, because Uranus will also be at the very last degree of Aries during the second half of this lunar cycle, this energy will also be extra heightened from the end of April until mid-late May when it transitions into Taurus.

Chiron Going Into Aries

As mentioned above, these coming weeks are a period of moving forward in new ways related to Aries energy. However, it is important to note that Chiron enters Aries a few days later on April 17th which will bring long term healing themes in connection with this sign. It will be there until 2027.

Known as ‘the wounded healer’, Chiron is a slow moving body (planetoid) and will not have the same short term ‘in your face’ effects as Mercury Retrograde. This is a nine year process of addressing wounds related to Aries energy (mentioned above), however, with Aries being associated with assertion, it can also be a period in which we can take new action towards our wounds which may have also been a theme for many people in the previous moon cycle leading up to this.

Saturn Going Retrograde

This previous Mercury retrograde had been in a square with Saturn in Capricorn as it has been slowing down to begin a retrograde of its own, starting on April 17/18th and lasting until September 6th. The themes of Mercury’s retrograde are feeding into the themes of Saturn’s retrograde.

There may be some changes or a shift in perspective around Saturn themes of commitments, responsibilities, goals, ambitions, discipline, structures, and perhaps career. Once Saturn’s retrograde period ends in late Summer, another shift around these things will take place based on what has transpired. During this transition period at the beginning and end of retrogrades of outer planets (such as Saturn)  is when these themes are the strongest, especially in this case considering that Mercury triggered it.

Jupiter Sextile Pluto With Venus Involved, Pluto Also Going Retrograde

At the time of this New Moon, Jupiter retrograde in Scorpio has been in its second sextile with Pluto. It is possible that some of the experiences we have been having in the recent and upcoming weeks could be connected to what has transpired in January when the first sextile occurred. This energy is about exploration, awareness, or inward growth related to the deeper qualities of ourselves and areas of life. Deep study as well as empowerment and may also be a theme here.

Pluto is also slowing down in preparation for its retrograde phase which will begin on April 22nd and last until September 30th. During this transition period, we may experience a shift or reflections around Pluto related themes connected to power, control, sex, reproduction, death, hidden matters, secrets, obsessiveness, desires, money/resources, or even the darker qualities of our lives. It’s sextile with Jupiter in Scorpio emphasizes some of this and can also help to facilitate some sort of transformational energy as well.

Venus is tied into this in the days following the New Moon as it is moving towards an opposition with Jupiter and trine with Pluto. This can apply growth, depth, understanding, and some of the other themes mentioned above around our relationships, finances, and values. However, it doesn’t necessarily have the same long term effects as the Jupiter-Pluto energy on its own.

Making Intentions And Things To Consider

What have you realized in the last month and how do you need to move forward based on what has transpired? What have learned about your individual needs? What do you need to liberate yourself from?
