Awake Goy New York Times Deputy Editor Dies of Heart Attack Day After Getting Moderna COVID Shot

The deputy Asia editor for The New York Times, Carlos Tejada, died in a hospital in Seoul, South Korea on Dec. 17, 2021, the day after reportedly getting a booster shot of Moderna/NIAID’s experimental messenger RNA (mRNA) mRNA-1273 (also known as “Spikevax”) biologic.1 2 3 4 According to his wife, 49-year-old Tejada died of a heart attack. She informed the world of her husband’s sudden death in a tweet on Dec. 18:
This is Carlos’s wife, Nora. It’s with deepest sorrow that I have to share with you that Carlos passed away last night of a heart attack. I’ve lost my best friend and our kids lost a truly great dad. I will be off social media for awhile.1 2 4
In messages posted on his Instagram account, Tejada indicated he had received Johnson & Johnson/Janssen’s experimental human adenovirus vectored Ad26.COV2.S vaccine on July 5.12 3 5 On Dec. 17, Tejada wrote:
Double-vaxxed, Janssen-fueled, Moderna-boosted. Hey Omicron: Hit me with your wet snot. All I had to do was fill out this form in a language I can’t read. Translation software tells me I now belong to the BTS Army.2 5
On July 5, 2021, Tejada wrote about his memories of the beginning of the COVID outbreak in Wuhan, China:
On Jan. 8, 2020, my friend Sui-Lee Wee reported on the emergence of a mysterious new disease in the Chinese city of Wuhan. It’s been a long, strange trip since then. Even before the world was fully aware, Hong Kong masked up and stripped the store shelves of rice and toilet paper. Covid has been part of our lives for so long that I can’t remember a time when we didn’t wear masks. Home schooling and a surprise move to South Korea turned our lives upside down. But we haven’t suffered like the people of Wuhan or Milan or New York. And our privilege gives us access to vaccines, like the J&J jab Nora and I got just this morning, 544 days after Sui’s story ran. I’m thanks for the scientists and medical professionals who defended us against Covid, and for being able to protect my family. And I’m mournful for so many people around the world who still have to wait for what my country takes for granted.2 6
Tejada was the Chinese news editor for The Wall Street Journal prior to being hired by The New York Times to be the newspaper’s Asia business editor in 2016. He won a Pulitzer Prize in 2020 for his coverage of the COVID pandemic.3
In a recent article in The New York Times, Richard Sandomir wrote, “That year [Tejada] contributed to The Times’s Pulitzer-winning coverage of the Covid-19 crisis, editing an article about how China had censored online news and opinion about the coronavirus early in the pandemic.”3
