A report published by a human rights lawyer, a Canadian lawmaker and a journalist claims that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has taken organs from 60,000 to 100,000 prisoners while only claiming 10,000 of them for legal purposes.
In secret, the Chinese government has been harvesting tens of thousands of organs from prisoners in a sort of ethnic cleansing. The prisoners being executed for this purpose include Uyghurs, Tibetans, Christians and practitioners of Falun Fong.
For the most part, the liver and kidneys are removed from these prisoners in a nation known for having the highest amount of executions. In 2014, China “officially” killed more than 2,400 prisoners; however the number is much greater due to the amount of organ harvesting happening in the country.
Media accounts of the harvesting estimate that 5,019 organs transplanted are unaccounted for – meaning no one is sure where the organ came from. Undocumented organs can range in the 50,000 to 90,000.
State Congressman Christopher Smith, an outspoken advocate for stopping this trend, said that the Chinese practice of organ harvesting from prisoners is “barbaric” and “Nazi-like”.
Smith said: “I can’t imagine what it would be like for a prisoner to be in jail, and know that tomorrow, 8 a.m., you’re going have your pancreas or your liver taken, then you’ll be killed.”
Three years ago the new Health and Planning Commission (HPC) released statistics showing that while an estimated 300,000 patients need organ transplants, only 10,000 will receive the donation.
Two-thirds of the organs “donated” come from prisoners; even though the Chinese government denied the practice.
Huang Jiefu, a senior Chinese official in charge of organ transplants, told mainstream media that in November of 2013, voluntary citizen organ donations will become the new official standard.
One hundred and fifty hospitals have been tasked with confirming that this new practice is adopted throughout the country.
Jiefu explained that the state government is focused on establishing a “sustainable organ donation system.”
In 2012, “64 percent of transplanted organs in China came from executed prisoners ; the ratio has dipped to under 54 percent so far this year.”
Chinese health officials have displayed concern over the “image of China” with regard to the procedure.
Jiefu said: “I am confident that before long all accredited hospitals will forfeit the use of prisoner organs.”
The University of Pennsylvania deduced that 5,000 prisoners are executed annually in China.
