No condition on JCPOA to be accepted: senior Iranian official

IRNA – The nuclear deal is non-negotiable, and Iran will not succumb to the West’s pressures on defensive issues of its presence in the region, a senior member of Iran’s Expediency Council said on Monday.

The nuclear agreement signed between Iran and major world powers in 2015 is known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Under the deal, Iran agreed to curb its nuclear program in exchange for economic sanctions relief.

‘JCPOA is not negotiable or reviewable whatsoever, and Iran will not accept any other condition, as the West’s pressure, like the defensive issue and those related to the Iran’s presence in the region,’, Ali Akbar Velayati told Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

Iran has been committed to its obligations under the nuclear deal, he said.

‘JCPOA will remain as it was when the written document was signed by Iran and other signatories, with no word more or less,’ Velayati said.

Answering a question on the reports that German and French officials, pressured by the Zionist regime, have warned Iranian military advisors on their presence in Syria, he said, ‘The region is ours, and we are the main country in the west Asia, so we have the right to reply other friendly nations’ request.’

Commenting on the Zionist regime’s plane downed over Syria, he said that the development is a turning point in Palestine fights. The point is that a major country in Resistance front, which should be called the golden chain, has the right of self-defense.
