“Obama expressed regret over the incident with the Russian plane which was downed by the Turkish air force in Syria,” Peskov said, adding that the Russian and US leaders discussed the situation in Syria in detail.
Both Putin and Obama spoke in favor of the movement towards a political settlement of the Syrian crisis, the Kremlin spokesman said.
Meanwhile, the US president once again expressed his stance on the position of Syrian President Bashar Assad, saying that the Syrian leader must leave power as part of a political transition, Reuters reported, citing a White House official.

A developer has sparked outrage with plans to build a refugee centre for 1,000 migrants in a village with a population of just 100.
Charlie Tull wants to convert a disused business park in Littleton-upon-Severn, Gloucestershire, into a ‘one stop shop’ for people fleeing war in the Middle East.
But the plan has been heavily criticised by residents who said it would have a massive impact on village life and cause chaos on the roads.
JERUSALEM (JTA) — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suspended contacts between Israeli officials and European Union institutions and representatives involved in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
The order Sunday comes in the wake of the EU decision to approve special labeling for Israeli products made in the West Bank and Golan Heights.
Netanyahu, who also holds the foreign minister portfolio, ordered the Foreign Ministry to “reassess” the involvement of EU and European Commission agencies in the peace process. But Israel will continue to maintain diplomatic contact with individual European countries that are member-states of the EU, such as Germany, Britain and France.

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Two Jewish teens were found guilty of the murder of a Palestinian teen who was burned to death in the Jerusalem forest.
The verdict in the kidnapping and killing of Mohammad Abu Khdeir, 16, was handed down Monday morning in Jerusalem District Court.
The court also found that the third defendant, Yosef Haim Ben-David, 31, of the Adam settlement in the West Bank, carried out the crimes for which he was accused, but delayed issuing a verdict due to the last-minute submission of an insanity plea.

Yinon Magal informed party leader Naftali Bennett on Monday that he will step down following the accusations by two women who worked with him when he was editor of the Hebrew-language news website Walla, as well as others.
At least four women in recent weeks have accused Magal, who is married, of making lewd comments and sexual assault.

Khameini’s comments, released in a statement to “the youth in the Western countries,” were published Sunday by IRNA, the Iranian government’s official news agency. They reportedly were the ayatollah’s first public comments on the coordinated Nov. 13 attacks on at least seven sites in Paris. The Iranian government had condemned the attacks immediately after they occurred.
Khameini said the pain of any human being is concerning, whether it occurs “in France or in Palestine or Iraq or Lebanon or Syria.”

Three Saudi military camps fall to Yemeni forces
Yemeni army units fighting alongside popular forces have gained control of three military camps in Saudi Arabia’s southwestern Najran region as the Yemenis continue with their retaliatory campaign against a deadly aggression by Riyadh.
Earlier reports on Monday said the army backed by fighters from popular committees loyal to the Houthi Ansarullah movement had taken control of one military camp in the southwest of the kingdom along the border with Yemen, destroying six military vehicles there.
Riyadh has also confirmed the death of three Saudi guards by Yemeni forces in the southwestern Jizan region.
Local reports said Yemeni forces have taken control of four Saudi military camps in Jizan and destroyed 10 armored vehicles belonging to Saudi forces.
Also, Yemeni forces staged a rocket attack on Malhame military site in Jizan, killing and injuring a number of Saudi soldiers there.
This as Saudi airstrikes on various areas in Yemen left at least eight civilians dead and several others injured on Monday.

The fatal incident took place on August 11 this year, near the small town of Atmeh in Idlib province, next to the Syrian-Turkish border.
The house, which the father of the children claims was bombed by coalition forces, was completely destroyed.
The US military issued a statement saying that “allegations of civilian casualties by the coalition were unfounded and deemed not credible.”
“The target was an Islamic State staging area,” US Central Command (CENTCOM) said, stressing that the strike on the vicinity of Atmeh was successful.

JTA — Director and writer Jonathan Levine (“The Wackness,” “50/50”) may have grown up in Jew-centric Manhattan, yet he recalls feeling somewhat like an alien every Christmas.
“I don’t think it was malicious,” Levine, 39, says in a telephone interview with JTA. “But, in a way, I felt like an outsider looking in at the party.”
The sentiment only heightened post-holiday, when his Christian chums came to school wearing or bragging about all the great gifts they received.
Levine’s Christmas was a tad different from his peers, though it may be one familiar to Jews across the US: dinner with the family at a Chinese restaurant.
As a young adult in his early 20s, however, he and a group of friends started a tradition of their own. They would “stumble around looking for the very few places that were open, usually filled with weird people,” he says. “Inevitably crazy stuff would happen.”
