Pakistan quake death toll hits 327

More than 400 people have been injured in the 7.8-magnitude quake that shook a number of cities including Karachi, Hyderabad, Quetta and Kalat.

Local media reports say communication systems have been damaged in the affected areas.

Meteorological officials say tremors have been also felt as far away as the Indian capital, New Delhi. Powerful aftershocks later hit the entire region.

The Pakistani army has started rescue operations and dispatched a team of 200 soldiers to the region.

Pakistan’s Balochistan is prone to earthquakes. A similar quake killed 41 people there in April.

Iran has dispatched rescuers to its border regions to assess the situation on the ground, but no casualties or damage has been reported in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

Iran has expressed its condolences with the government and nation of Pakistan and says Tehran’s ready to help the affected people.
