Police seek caller with murder details

Detectives are “desperate” for a caller who provided information about the fatal bashing of Melbourne woman Sally Brooks to come forward again, saying it could solve the case.

Ms Brooks, 48, died in hospital on July 11, 10 days after being found inside her Limassol Court home in Donvale with serious injuries.

Investigators believe the single mother was brutally assaulted in her home between 9am and 2pm on the day she was found.

The assault took place on the last day of the school term, only days before Ms Brooks and her three school-aged children were moving to the United Kingdom to start a new life.

A caller to Crime Stoppers on Thursday night stated they saw a man on the morning of the attack in the vicinity of Mullum Mullum Reserve near Reynolds Road.

While police have a suspect, Homicide Detective Inspector John Potter said the call was the one police had been waiting for.

“This particular call is quite a breakthrough for us in this investigation,” he told reporters on Friday.

“We believe this information is crucial to our case and that this may lead to the identification of the killer.

“We’re desperate for further information … it’s certainly sparked some hope with us.”

The man seen in the Donvale area was tall, aged in his 40s to 50s, caucasian, with short dark brown hair and wearing dark clothing.

“I am appealing for that caller to please call back,” Det Insp Potter said.

“This caller may provide the very information that could lead us to the person responsible.”

Police have been searching locally and interstate for the killer and say they are confident of solving the crime.

Ms Brooks’ three children have since relocated to the UK.
