Putin announces new Russia government

On Monday, Igor Shuvalov was named as first deputy prime minister in charge of finance, while the long-serving Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov were reappointed to their posts.

Putin’s cabinet also saw Arkady Dvorkovich, a top liberal aide of the current premier and Putin’s predecessor Dmitry Medvedev, in a key industry post.

Meanwhile, the health, education, and interior ministries didn’t survive the reshuffle

Putin also warned his men that their mission will be a difficult one at a time of global economic climate.

“The situation the world economy finds itself in today is uncertain. There are a lot of uncertainty factors,” Putin said.

After Putin’s victory in March elections, the ex-KGB spy and his protege Medvedev went on to complete a disputed job swap stretching Putin’s 12-year domination until 2018. Putin was sworn in as Russia’s president on May 7 for the third term.
