A mosque in Peterborough, Ontario, was set ablaze deliberately, local police have ruled. An investigation is under way. The local Muslim association has labeled the incident “clearly a hate crime.”
The incident came to light Sunday, and authorities are currently trying to work out if there is a connection to the Paris terrorist attacks that claimed 129 lives and left 352 injured.
The fire started around 11 p.m. the previous day at 784 Parkhill Road, according to CBC News. There are no casualties and no one was inside at the Masjid Al-Salaam Mosque was set ablaze.
However, this could easily have been different: the local Muslim association’s president, Kenzu Abdella, says that only an hour prior to the crime, a group of worshipers had gathered to celebrate a newborn child.

Stating that France is now “at war,” President Francois Hollande urged for increased security spending and stripping dual citizens of their French nationality if they are deemed a terrorism risk. It comes just days after Paris attacks killed 129 people.
In a Monday address to both houses of parliament, Hollande said France will step up strikes in Syria, calling it “the biggest factory of terrorists the world has known.”
“Our democracy has triumphed before over adversaries that were much more formidable than these cowards,” Hollande said.
The French president demanded a rapid implementation of “co-ordinated and systematic controls” of the EU’s internal and external borders, stressing that it will patrol its national borders if Europe does not comply. This would mean dismantling the European Union.
He stated that he was extending the current state of emergency by an additional three months, adding that the French constitution must be amended for crisis situations, allowing dual citizens to be stripped of their French citizenship and barred from the country if they are a terrorism risk.
The French president stated that 5,000 police jobs will be created in the next two years. He said there would be no job cuts in the military until 2019.

The FBI has confirmed an unknown number of weapons are missing after a burglary at the US Army Reserve center in Worcester, Massachusetts. All law enforcement bodies were alerted, but the agency insists there are no signs of terrorism.
The authorities provided no details as to how many weapons are missing, but claim all necessary measures are in place to investigate the incident and search for the missing cache.
“Nothing at this point in time would tie this to any specific threat or anything else,” Hank Shaw, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Boston office, told WCVB.
The agencies concerned also emphasize the break-in seems to have no connection to any terrorism-related activity, as security measures have been tightened across the state after Friday’s terror attacks in Paris that killed at least 129 people and injured more than 250 others.

Investigators have identified the alleged sponsor and mastermind of Friday’s massacre in Paris. He had direct contact with the terrorists, media report. The suspect is believed to be a Belgian national and an active Islamic State executioner in Syria.
Abdelhamid Abaaoud, 27, financed and organized the attacks and the explosions in the French capital, RTL radio said, citing investigating authorities. The report added that Abaaoud was the “butcher” of the Islamic State group and had carried out several grisly executions.
Abaaoud is said to be from the Brussels suburb of Molenbeek, notorious for being an Islamist hotspot. This is the same area where another suspect in the Paris attacks, Salah Abdeslam, was raised.

Germany has launched a campaign in Afghanistan to discourage people from trying to enter Europe illegally. Other European governments have made similar moves this year amid the refugee crisis.
The German campaign launched on Sunday started with several billboards in Kabul. “You are leaving Afghanistan: Are you certain?” they say in Dari and Pashto, the two main languages in Afghanistan.
The billboards also have links to a Facebook account called “Germany in Afghanistan” run by the embassy in Kabul and a #RumoursAboutGermany hashtag.

‘We’re devastated because we knew everyone who worked there,’ says former owner Pascal Laloux
November 14, 2015, 5:50 pm
The Bataclan theater, targeted in Friday night’s Paris terror attacks, was Jewish-owned for decades, but was sold two months ago, its former owners said.
French magazine Le Point said early Saturday that the Bataclan, where at least 80 people were massacred by Islamic State gunmen on Friday night, has for years been the target of anti-Zionist groups as the Jewish owners often put on pro-Israel events. The publication quoted a member of the extremist group Army of Islam, who told French security services in 2011 that, “We had planned an attack against the Bataclan because its owners are Jews.”
The Eagles of Death Metal, the band performing at the theater when the attacks began, played in Tel Aviv’s Barby club in July.
Pascal Laloux, one of the theater’s former owners, said Saturday that the theater was “sold in September after 40 years.”
“We’re devastated because we knew everyone who worked there,” he told Israel’s Channel 2 news.
