The tax system is ‘inefficient, overly complex and frequently unfair’, and it is hurting the economy, one of Britain’s top economic think-tanks warns today.
In a blistering attack, the Institute for Fiscal Studies said a better tax system could create hundreds of thousands of jobs and add tens of billions to the economy.
It will call for the biggest ever shake-up of the system, calling on the Government to rip up the rules and start again.
Paul Johnson, director of the IFS, said there was ‘little about the UK tax system which looks like it was deliberately designed’.

This is a completely desirable project, therefore it will never happen. It takes too mucy power away from congress critters.
please forgive my typos, I are an injuneer.
I guess one person can make a ton of posts, while mine does get there. Strange world.
My question is If someone has never owed taxes, and always gotten a tax refund, why do those people even need to pay in taxes or file a return?? Then if they don’t file the IRS starts making threats to take what little they have. WTF? I think an across the board tax would be a good thing. Paid at the end of the year, bi-annually, or quarterly, not out of every paycheck.
Why have an income tax at all or property taxes for that matter? Our income taxes go towards paying down a debt owed to a private bank for doing something our own government could do interest free. Property taxes equate to armed robbery an no ownership of private property. In a free country (if one existed) you’re supposed to own your property not rent it from the government. If you refuse to pay these extortion fees government thugs will attempt to remove you from your home. If you resist they will assassinate you. Taxes should be done away with, the government can be funded through trade and other creative financial ventures. The CAFR already prove that the government is hiding trillions of dollars of profitable investments it has made using the people’s tax money. It’s high time we stop paying these criminals their “protection” money.
Yeah heard last night, the banks got 16.9 trillion without anyone really knowing
My problem with govenment is this. Its not really supposed to make a profit. Thats what business is for. With that said, govenment shouldnt never lose money either. Our taxes are supposed to pay for the system, so we can drive down roads, drink clean safe water, and have your garbage picked up. Not risk management funding of the private corps.
DO NOT SUPPORT THIS FAKKED UP SYSTEM!!!!!
If all would heed this, it would crumble in months
I totally agree that there should be no tax at all! But as we all also know that is pure fantasy to think that will ever happen our lifetime, as we are all slaves to this messed up system. So there has to be a solution where the crooks can still get their slave tax and the people can still afford to continue to work to pay them.
In Canada, if you dont owe, you don’t have to legally file. But if you don’t file, you don’t recieve the latest tax credit check. And you want that, cause its better to get a little piece of the pie before you owe for two pies.
The problem with paperwork is that it can always be manipulated. I thought alittle about tax reform. There should be a basic tax. Meaning for example, if your country had a million people, then if everyone paid $100 dollars, then the budget for the country to run its govenment would be 100 million dollars. I know, its not enough to go to war with, so the leaders wouldnt think that made sense.
