Rolf Harris has been re-arrested by UK police in connection with further allegations of sexual offences.

The 83-year-old was first arrested in March this year on suspicion of sexual offences, after being interviewed under caution last November. Bail was later extended.

He has now returned to a police station on bail and has been further arrested in connection with what Scotland Yard says are further allegations made to Operation Yewtree, which was set up following the scandal surrounding the late television presenter Jimmy Savile.

No charges have been laid.

Harris has been re-bailed to a date later in August.

The case falls into the third strand of Operation Yewtree, concerning allegations not related to the Savile scandal, but which emerged in the wake of that case.

The veteran entertainer has made no public comment about the allegations.

However, earlier this year he alluded to being in a difficult situation during a concert in England and thanked fans for their support.

“You’ve got no idea what this means to have you turn up with such enthusiasm and such support,” he told a Bristol audience in May.

Harris received standing ovations at the beginning and end of the performance.
