“Safe & effective”? 30 workers decontaminated after ‘fluoride’ spill at Perth water treatment plant

The West Australian – Up to 30 workers were decontaminated today amid fears they were exposed after a chemical spill at a Mundaring water treatment plant.Emergency services believe a container ruptured about 10.30am as hydroflurosilicic acid was being unloaded at the new plant, which is yet to be commissioned.The workers were not exposed to the liquid but potentially to a gas it emits.The area was evacuated and emergency serviced were called.About 120 people were on-site but about 30 were close enough to be exposed.Some reported symptoms including itchiness, a taste in the back of their throat and coughing.
