San Diego Sheriff’s Deputies Tasered Unarmed Man to Death

Mark Roshawn Adkins, 54, from Lemon Grove, CA, died this week after two deputies tased him multiple times.

Authorities were responding to multiple calls that a black man was attempting to enter townhouses and jumping fences.

The Sheriff’s Homicide Lt. Kenneth Nelson said “The callers also said the suspect was acting as if he were under the influence of drugs,”

Two deputies, who have not yet been identified, located Adkins in a patio area of the apartment complex, where authorities claim they repeatedly ordered him to get on the ground. It is not clear whether they saw Adkins running or just spotted him in the complex’s patio area.

When Adkins allegedly did not follow the police commands, both deputies deployed their Tasers.

Authorities claim that Adkins collapsed to the ground but immediately tried to stand up again, so deputies fired their Tasers again.

“Both deputies deployed their department-issued Tasers, striking the suspect,” Nelson said. “The suspect went to the ground but continued to ignore commands to comply and attempted to stand again. A second round of Taser was deployed, with the same minimal effect.”

Collette Adkins, Mark Adkins’ widow, was admitted to hospital after finding out about her husband’s death.

“To watch your TV and see your husband get killed on nationwide TV by a Taser, I can’t take it,” “It’s too much for me.” she said.

She denies that her husband would try to break into people’s homes.
