Sanders, Harris Say Boston Marathon Bomber Should Be Able To Vote From Prison

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Kamala Harris (D-CA) said on Monday that all prisoners – including domestic terrorists such as the Boston Marathon Bomber, should have the right to vote while in prison

Speaking at a CNN town hall, Sanders was asked by an audience member if he thinks the right to vote should extend to serious criminals – including 2013 Boston Marathon Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who said he and his brother Tamerlan were motivated by Islamic extremism when they built and deployed pressure-cooker backpack bombs based on designs from an al-Qaeda affiliated online magazine, killing three people and injuring several hundred others – including 16 who lost limbs.

“If somebody commits a serious crime, sexual assault, murder, they’re going to be punished,” replied Sanders. “They may be in jail for 10 years, 20 years, 50 years, their whole lives. That’s what happens when you commit a serious crime.”

“But I think the right to vote is inherent to our democracy,” Sanders continued. “Yes, even for terrible people, because once you start chipping away … you’re running down a slippery slope. … I do believe that even if they are in jail, they’re paying their price to society, but that should not take away their inherent American right to participate in our democracy.”

Following Sanders’ Monday comments CNN‘s Chris Cuomo told the Vermont Senator that he might be writing an opposition ad against himself, to which Sanders replied: “I have written many 30-second opposition ads throughout my life. This will be just another one.”

2020 hopeful Kamala Harris, meanwhile, concurred with Sanders – this time saying Felons should vote by invoking the race card – insisting this “goes back to Jim Crow” (when in fact it dates back to 1100 BC).

“I have been long an advocate of making sure that the formally incarcerated are not denied a right to vote,” said Harris.

CNN‘s Don Lemon then asked her if that applies to terrists such as the Boston Marathon Bomber – to which Harris replied “I think we should have that conversation.”

Democratic candidate Pete Buttigieg didn’t go quite as far as Sanders and Harris – suggesting that convicted felons should be able to vote when they get out of prison.

Anything for votes, right?

In short; after losing badly in 2016, the left wants to let felons, 16-year-olds, and illegal immigrants vote. They also want to expand the Supreme Court now that it’s firmly to the right.  If at first you don’t succeed, just change the rules.
