Saudi Arabia takes control of Syrian National Coalition

The Syrian National Coalition has finally found a new leader, 6 July 2013 in Istanbul. Ahmad Assi Jarba, head of a tribe in eastern Syria, represents the interests of Saudi Arabia to which his tribe is linked.

Qatar, which had previously dominated the coalition, underwent a government shakeup on 25 June.
