SCO Summit kicks off in Sochi

IRNA – The meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) heads of governments started in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi on Friday afternoon.

Iranian First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri is representing the Islamic Reublic of Iran in the forum.

Jahangiri is slated to address the SCO meeting on its capacities for developing regional cooperation and expound on Iran’s potentials in the economic, scientific and technical areas, especially in post-JCPOA era.

SCO is an inter-governmental organization founded by China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in 2001 in a bid to promote multilateral cooperation in the fields of security, economy and culture.

Iran, Mongolia, Afghanistan and Belarus have joined the entity as observer members.

Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan and India are current members of SCO.
