Sweden keen on environmental cooperation with Iran

Tehran, Dec 12, IRNA – Minister of Enterprise and Innovation of Sweden Mikael Damberg on Saturday expressed his country’s readiness for environmental cooperation with Iran.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Vice-President and head of Department of Environment Masoumeh Ebtekar.
Ebtekar said that Iran is interested in expansion of relations in all fields with Sweden.
She underlined that Iran is considering environment as a global issue and is trying to form joint cooperation in the framework of bilateral or multilateral cooperation.
The VP said that environment has no geographical borders and its goals are trans-national, requiring collective cooperation of the international community.
Ebtekar added that Iran needs Sweden joint cooperation in different areas.
She said that the arbitrary sanctions imposed by the western governments over the past three years left adverse consequences on environment and hampered the government’s plan to transfer modern technology to the country.
The VP invited Swedish minister to attend 15th international Environment Exhibition due to be held in Tehran on February 29 to March 3rd, 2016.
She said that the exhibition would be a good opportunity for acquaintances of industrialists with Swedish enterprises technologies and expressed hope that the latest experience, know-how and advanced equipment would be put on display in the fair.
Ebtekar said that Iran is interested in Sweden experience in the field of checking the water and air pollution and their quality as well as sharing experience and reciprocal cooperation and holding training workshops.
Damberg said that Iran needs to improve its public transportation system and cooperate with the Swedish private sector to develop public transport.
He said that Tehran and Stockholm may have suitable cooperation in recycling waste management, energy and optimization of energy consumption, applying environmental policies and transferring technologies.
Damberg said that fulfillment of sustainable development needs modern thoughts, modern means and effective methods.
