Amir Nabizadeh came to Sweden as a so-called “child refugee”. He later claimed to be 18 years-old at the moment he received his residence permit, but things have changed a little.

In October, data was published that strongly indicated that the Afghan refugee is actually 23-years-old. Swedish media say politician Hanif Bali revealed via a blog and Facebook link that Nabizadeh was born in 1994.

After Nabizadeh received his Swedish residence permit the “child” refugee also visited his family in the Middle East. On Twitter he wrote:

In Tehran and at home after three years, mom and dad are happy, but I want to be in Sweden…I missed my friends and school. Here in Tehran there is everything, but not the security I had in Sweden.

The Afghan is known for being the leader of a group of Afghan protestors in Stockholm. As a spokesperson for the “Youth in Sweden” he demands amnesty for all Afghan men who have been refused a residence permit because they lied about their age. Hardly surprising given that he himself is guilty of the same offence to public decency.

Such cases reflect very poorly on the whole sacred asylum process and erode public confidence in maintaining it since it is so rotten with abuse. Until it is cleaned up, people will be asking: “Why?”
