A father was stabbed and his family attacked by armed foreign suspects this week in the Swiss border city of Basel, according to reports.
A couple and their two young children were walking along a city street on Wednesday evening when two males ambushed them.
The husband, 25, managed to fight off the assailants, but was hospitalized with stab wounds, according to Basel-Stadt police.
“The first suspect is 25 to 30 years old, about 175 cm tall, has brown skin and dark brown short hair. He was wearing a black T-shirt, light blue jeans, red sneakers, and a black leather jacket,” Blick reports.
While no description of the second perpetrator has been provided, both men were heard speaking in “Turkish or Arabic.”
Police have opened an investigation and are searching for any witnesses with additional information.
During a separate incident in Basel just days before, a young woman was sexually assaulted and robbed at knifepoint in a public bathroom.
The victim encountered a man while walking alone sometime between midnight and 2 a.m. on May 20.
“He threatened her with a stabbing weapon, took her to the toilet facilities in Freiburgerstrasse and sexually coerced her there. Before the perpetrator left in an unknown direction, he also stole cash from the woman,” Blue News reports.
Basel is located in northern Switzerland, uniquely situated along the borders of both Germany and France.
