The Melting Pot

Israel Zangwill is the jew who we can all thank for the introduction of the term ‘the melting pot’. Zangwill was a Zionist and territorialist who passionately fought for a Jewish homeland, born in London in 1864, he;

graduated from the University of London in 1884 with honors in English, French, and Mental and Moral Science” (Jewish Virtual Library).

His father was Moses Zangwill and his mother was Ellen Hannah ‘Marks’. He was married to Edith Ayrton, who helped form the Jewish League for Woman Suffrage with her husband’s money, approval and publicity. Edith’s mother Matilda and father William were cousins. Her biological mother and step-mother where both suffragettes. Edith’s mother died young and she was brought up by Jewish Hertha ‘Marks’ Ayrton, previously known as Phoebe Sarah Marks. They do like to keep it in the family.

Zangwill attended the Jewish free school, and later taught there. He then became a journalist of the Jewish standard. He wrote ‘Children of the Ghetto’ and other stories discussing Jewish persecutions. He was thought to bring current concerns of society to light in his literary expressions.

Zangwill wrote a story of a Jewish family’s immigration to America from Russia. In the story plotline, the family had been persecuted and the mother and sister were killed in the 1903 Russian Kishenev Pogrom, a “massacre” of the Jewish ethnic minority. The character in the play is called David, he writes a symphony, called ‘the crucible’, in which he desires all nationalities and ethnicities to melt
away, and that America is the place for this to happen.

DAVID: Not understand! You, the Spirit of the Settlement! [He rises and crosses to her and leans over the table, facing her.] Not understand that America is God’s Crucible, the great Melting‐Pot where all the races of Europe are melting and re‐forming! Here you stand, good folk, think I, when I see them at Ellis Island, here you stand [Graphically illustrating it on the table] in your fifty groups, with your fifty languages and histories, and your fifty blood hatreds and rivalries. But you won’t be long like that, brothers, for these are the fires of God you’ve come to‐these are the fires of God. A fig for your feuds and vendettas! Germans and Frenchmen, Irishmen and Englishmen, Jews and Russians— into the Crucible with you all! God is making the American!

MENDEL: I should have thought the American was made already‐‐eighty millions of him.

DAVID: Eighty millions! [He smiles toward VERA in good‐ humored derision.] Eighty millions! Over a continent! Why, that cockleshell of a Britain has forty millions! No, uncle, the real American has not yet arrived. He is only in the Crucible, I tell you—he will be the fusion of all races, perhaps the coming superman. Ah, what a glorious Finale for my symphony—if I can only write it.

This ‘new man’ who he called ‘superman’ would be a mixed European. He was talking as it was, not how it would be; it already was ‘a new american man’ of European descent. The story then follows a kind of Romeo and Juliet tale; David is in love with Vera, who’s father is a Russian Officer responsible for his family’s demise. He admits all out guilt and shame, then Vera and David kiss as the curtain falls, but before this David reveals all:

It is the fires of God round His Crucible. [He drops her hand and points downward.] There she lies, the great Melting Pot–listen! Can’t you hear the roaring and the bubbling? There gapes her mouth [He points east] the harbour where a thousand mammoth feeders come from the ends of the world to pour in their human freight. Ah, what a stirring and a seething! Celt and Latin, Slav and Teuton, Greek and Syrian, black and yellow.

In the 18th century ‘crucible’ was used to describe the fusion of different nationalities. Although the ideas for the term ‘Melting Pot’ had been used before by John Hector St. John de Crèvecœur, an aristocrat catholic who left home for England, then Canada to America, his ‘new man’ (Letters from an American Farmer, 1782) discussed nations coming together in America. In his letters his main topic was Europeans creating the new American man, which he called a ‘western pilgrim’, as in Europeans who had traveled far. He wrote of the abolishment of slavery, he discussed how he saw Negro slaves were treated in Charleston, South Carolina in comparison to Nantucket in the North. Because of this some people seem to take the assumption when he discusses ‘the new American man’ and the nations merging together to make that man, that he means racial mixing, as we know it today, but this was not the case at all. His wife was murdered by Indians and he kept his own Negro slaves, who he claims he fed and clothed well and allowed every freedom, as did all ‘new Americans’ in the north. When he discusses this new creation of people, how the nations merged and ‘melted’, he says:

they are mixture of English, Scotch, Irish, French, Dutch, Germans, and Swedes. From this promiscuous breed, that race now called Americans have arisen.” (John Hector St. John de Crèvecœur, Letters from an American Farmer, 1782)

His Letters in his pen name (“Farmer James”) showed the American dream, the land of opportunity. The third Letter, “What is an American”, boasted of the great European nationalities becoming strong in America:

by the power of transplantation, like all other plants they have taken root and flourished!

Using the terminology of a moulding plant, in comparison to a new robust flowering plant, he discussed how that in America Europeans successfully and fruitfully brought about a new race of man. This is the reason his work is used, as a Utopian perception of mixing man.

They brought along with them their national genius, to which they principally owe what liberty they enjoy, and what substance they possess. Here he sees the industry of his native country displayed in a new manner, and traces in their works the embrios of all the arts, sciences, and ingenuity which flourish in Europe. Here he beholds fair cities, substantial villages, extensive fields, an immense country filled with decent houses, good roads, orchards, meadows, and bridges, where an hundred years ago all was wild, woody and uncultivated! What a train of pleasing ideas this fair spectacle must suggest; it is a prospect which must inspire a good citizen with the most heartfelt pleasure. The difficulty consists in the manner of viewing so extensive a scene.

The term ‘Melting Pot’ has been thoroughly adopted by pro-multicultural discussions, as intended, in preparation for the new mixed man. For longer than a hundred years they have corrupted our magical ability to create, with visions they want us to hold for them. Their constant media (propaganda, movies, TV and theatre) are socially engineering and manipulating us to unknowingly work for them, using our magical imaginations against us. They cannot create the world they want without us envisioning it for them. I mean this literally, and of this I am certain.

The poster advertisement for the melting pot above shows us the reality of Zangwills Jewish social engineering spells. They want us all to end up in the big-nosed witch’s cauldron, and they are increasing the heat as you read.
