Turkey says it has summoned Russia’s ambassador to Ankara in protest at alleged violation of Turkish airspace by Russian jets.

“A Su-34 plane belonging to the Russian Federation air force violated Turkish airspace at 11:46 local time yesterday (Friday)” despite radar warnings, the Turkish Foreign Ministry claimed in a statement on Saturday.

The statement added that following the incident Ankara summoned the Russian ambassador to “strongly protest and condemn” the violation. The ministry, however, did not specify where the incident took place.

The ministry accused Russia of escalating tensions between the two countries, saying Moscow would be held responsible for any dire consequences.

“We stress once again that all the responsibility for any unwanted grave consequences as a result of any such irresponsible behavior will belong entirely to the Russian Federation,” it said.

Russia is yet to comment on Turkey’s claim.

Germany has been giving “financial incentives” to the embassies of some African countries to accept asylum seekers from third states who have been rejected by Germany without the consent of the migrants, a refugee aid organization claims.

Berlin has been adding specific “Readmission Agreements” to development aid accords with African countries in order to deport asylum seekers to these countries – regardless of their actual country of origin, “Pro Azyl” (For Asylum), a German refugee rights organization, alleges.

“These agreements commit the African countries to readmitting their own citizens who have had asylum turned down by Germany, but it also allows them to readmit rejected asylum seekers from other countries, who travelled through these transit states,” Max Pichl, a member of Pro Azyl, told The Local.

According to the relief organization’s data, if German authorities are unable to deport a rejected asylum seeker because they lack sufficient information and documents to determine or confirm their country of origin, they address a third nation’s embassy and pay for documentation to be issued “confirming” such a person’s nationality as their citizen so that the migrant can eventually be deported to that country.

“It is difficult to say how many people it affects. The cases only come to light on an individual basis when someone who has been sent back to Africa reports it,” Pichl told The Local, adding that there is “a very long list of countries with whom Germany has such agreements,” according to which “countries are obliged to take back migrants, but nothing more is specified.”

Donald Trump is making waves in the US with his controversial presidential campaign. In the Czech Republic, one politician is known for a similar style, and he has already realized his presidential ambition.

Milos Zeman may not have the same executive powers as his American counterpart, but he certainly makes his voice heard by (the sometimes shocked) Czechs.

At times, the two politicians’ flamboyant rhetoric is so alike it’s hard to tell them apart. Feel free to try it yourself in the quiz below!

Lavrov described the American claims as “trumped-up and brazen” in his phone call with the US Secretary of State on Friday, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said.

The Russian FM “stressed that the blame for delicately fanning tensions in bilateral relations lies fully with Washington,” it added.

According to the ministry, the phone conversation, in which Lavrov and Kerry also discussed the situation in Syria, was initiated by the US side.

MUNICH (JTA) – Amid fears that Muslim refugees’ arrival to Germany may cause problems for local Jews, the American Jewish Committee in Berlin called for a national summit on ways to combat anti-democratic values among the newcomers.

“It is five minutes before midnight, but not yet too late,” said AJC Berlin director Deidre Berger in statement published Thursday by AJC, in which is calling for holding national summit on strict educational priorities for refugees.

Approximately 1 million migrants entered Germany in 2015; more than half have asked for asylum. A majority come from Syria and other Muslim countries. Watchdog groups in France and the Netherlands said immigrants who arrived from the 1950s onward and their descendants are responsible for most violent anti-Semitic incidents today, as well as increases in attacks.

(JTA) — The Indiana House of Representatives unanimously approved a bill banning state dealings with entities that boycott Israel or its settlements.

The bill sent to the state’s Senate on Jan. 26 defines “the promotion of activities to boycott, divest from, or sanction Israel” as meeting the standard of “extraordinary circumstances” necessary under state law to mandate divestment from a company.

It includes in its definition “territories controlled by the Jewish state of Israel,” effectively including any bid to boycott settlements in its purview.

The Indiana bill states that the effort to boycott, divest from and sanction Israel is “antithetical and deeply damaging to the cause of peace, justice, equality, democracy and human rights for all people in the Middle East.”
