Third light quake shakes western Iran

IRNA – An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale jolted Sumar in the western province of Kermanshah bordering Iraq at 12:54 hours local time (09: 24 GMT) on Saturday.

According to the Seismological Center affiliated to the Institute of Geophysics of Tehran University, the epicenter of the quake was registered at 45.65 degrees longitude and 33.70 degrees latitude at the depth of 14 kilometers underground.

The first quake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale happened today at 04:03 hours local time (00:33 GMT).

The second tremor measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale took place at 10:00 hours local time (6:30 GMT).

The aftershocks have caused damages to the residential and trade units in Gilan-e Gharb and Sumar, injuring some people.

The area has been jolted 189 times since January 11.

Kermanshah has been jolted by several earthquakes since November 12, 2017, when a 7.3 magnitude earthquake hit the province’s Ezgeleh region killing at least 620 people and injuring over 12,000.
