Totalitarian regulations force Suite 17 dance café in Belgium to close

nsnbc : The popular pub and dancing café Suite 17 in the Belgian city of Bruges has been forced to close its doors after the city claimed it is violating regulations.

Suite 17_Buuges_BelgiumBruges city claims that owners of Suite 17 are violating rules because it is singling out who can and who cannot get in. The city especially stresses that Suite 17 is violating regulations because single men are refused at the door and because “security staff” at the door “determines who is good enough to enter and who is being refused.”

Having security at nightclubs, discos and dance clubs is “normal” in all European Union member states – even in Belgium. The dictates are based in politics more than in law, and even an attempt to explain the dictates with law would be challenging.

Bruges’ “socialist” Mayor Renaat Landuyt, after discussing the matter with police, said he “wants to give a strong signal that this cannot be tolerated”. Like with many other, similar businesses there have been occasional complaints about noise nuisance and there were, allegedly drug-related violent acts committed in August.

However, the complaints and warnings issued to Suite 17 would – normally, in Bruges and most other Belgian and European cities – not be sufficient to close down a private business like the Suite 17 dance club.

It’s thus highly surprising – and disturbing – that the apparently “political correctness” based attack launched by “socialist” Mayor Landuyt resulted in Suite 17 being closed down temporarily. The city maintains that the owners will only be allowed to reopen if they have adopted new regulations and are willing to comply with the city’s dictates prohibiting alleged “discrimination”.

Suite 17 has become very popular “because” it didn’t comply with totalitarian dictates about “political correctness” and allegedly “anti-discriminatory” dictates, now imposed by the city on behalf of the Mayor’s office.

Internal Regulations_Suite 17_Bruges_BelgiumAmong the “violations” committed by Suite 17 ? The club asked guests to show an official ID card to check that no underage persons could enter.

Suite 17 also required “decent clothing”. Suite 17 did not allow access for groups of more than four persons, and especially not when they arrived too drunk and braindead to behave decently when meeting security at the entrance.

Another regulation was that male customers had to be accompanied by a lady. Combined with a mandatory ID check it becomes pretty obvious when a tranny poses as a lady and that may have been at the root of the Mayor’s “firm stance”.

The matter would normally not make other than local headlines. However, the matter prompts discussions about socialist-imposed dictates on political correctness which have very little to no standing in law.

The case prompts the question to what degree city governments or any government should be permitted to dictate whom the owner of a place like Suite 17 allows to enter.

The owners of Suite 17 may or may not have the substantial funds that would be required to challenge the dictates in a court of law.

A creative suggestion for Suite 17 – and others who may want to defy totalitarian dictates – could be to transform a business into a club – 1 euro for a lifetime membership.

Members could sign a membership application, agreeing to comply with the club’s membership conditions – such as – show your ID, don’t bring under age guests, don’t show up in crowds, adhere to a dress code, if you are male, find a lady to accompany you, and remember that an ID check will help differentiate between a teeny, a lady, a granny, and a tranny.

It really doesn’t matter whether or not one agrees with the Mayor and his “opinions”. What the Suite 17 case is really all about is “freedom” and elected officials who suffer from the dangerous illusion that they should limit the freedom of those whom they don’t agree with, to protect their own favorite causes. One could wish that the owners of Suite 17 had the funds and will to challenge the dictates in a court of law.
