RUSSIA-NAVY DAY/PARADE-PUTINFollowing the phone conversation the White House stated that both presidents affirmed their support for the Joint Statement of the United States and the Russian Federation, issued at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit (APEC) on November 11.

Both presidents reportedly also stressed the importance of implementing U.N. Security Council Resolution 2254, and supporting the U.N.-led Geneva Process to peacefully resolve the Syrian civil war, end the humanitarian crisis, allow displaced Syrians to return home, and ensure the stability of a unified Syria free of malign intervention and terrorist safe havens.

Trump and Putin reportedly also affirmed the importance of fighting terrorism together throughout the Middle East and Central Asia and agreed to explore ways to further cooperate in the fight against ISIS, al-Qaeda, the Taliban, and other terrorist organizations.

President Trump and President Putin reportedly also discussed how to implement a lasting peace in Ukraine, and the need to continue international pressure on North Korea to halt its nuclear weapon and missile programs.

Putin and Trump should quit talking rubbish: Lehmann

“The two presidents will have a lot of work waiting for them before their assertions of intent can be transformed into policy” said nsnbc international editor-in-chief Christof Lehmann in a phone conversation Thursday at noon. Lehmann stressed that there is no convergence with respect to designating organizations as terrorist organizations or as legitimate paramilitaries.

“Russian ally Iran backs Hezbollah, which in return is fighting alongside Syrian military forces, in part against Turkey-backed armed forces, and potentially against US-backed Syrian-Kurdish forces like the YPG, which in return has been designated as a terrorist organization by Turkey. … It is a complete mess that has nothing or very little to do with fighting terrorism or designating organizations as terrorists based on whether or not they primarily use terrorist strategies or tactics. What counts is social constructionism. If an organization suits a foreign policy purpose its legitimate, if not its a terrorist organization.. To claim anything else would be utter rubbish and dishonest, and sadly, that is exactly what we must observe,”he said.

Lehmann also proposed that Trump and Putin if they are serious about their claims, could start out by dropping their bigotry and utilitarianism and to start discussing terrorism based on facts and functions instead of positioning, constructionism and utilitarianism.
