Turkey and allied “rebels” continue attacks against Syrian Kurds


nsnbc : Turkish military forces and affiliated gangs touted as Free Syrian Army continue attacking Syrian Kurds Rojava, in northern Syria.  Most recently, Turkish military forces and gangs of insurgents operating under their command have targeted Efrin and Kobane areas while Turkey’s air force increased its operations there.

June 1_2017_Rojava_Turkish toops and rebels burn farm land in attacks_Courtesy YPGThe Syrian  Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) detailed the operations of Turkish military forces and Turkish backed insurgents over the past five days. On May 27, groups of gangs operating under the Turkish army’s command, using mortars and hell cannons, targeted several positions near the village of Celemê in Efrin’s Cindirêsê district. These gangs also randomly attacked Efrin’s Maranez, Eyn Deqnê and Belûnê villages with heavy artillery.

On May 28, Turkish fighter planes and drones violated Rojava’s and the Syrian Arab Republic’s airspace in western Kobane. It is important to note that these operations by Turkey’s air force did not targe the Islamic State, but rather the YPG, which is one of the most effective forces in the fight against ISIS.

On the same day gangs affiliated with the Turkish army, positioned in Lower Jarabulus, used heavy weapons to target Kobane’s Sheikhler district in eastern bank of the Euphrates River.

On May 29, 5 gang elements affiliated to Turkish army who attempted to attack YPG positions near Efrin’s Bêlûniyê village, were spoted by YPG forces. Clashes erupted in the noted area. Two of the attackers were killed, one was injured and the remaining were forced to flee.

Similarly, Turkish-led gangs tried another attempt against Derbelût village and hill Dewa in Efrin’s Cindirêsê district by attacking with mortars and katyusha rockets. The attacks resulted in burning of 4 hectares of agricultural lands of civilians.

YPG forces immediately responded to the attack, the attackers’ casualties are yet to be confirmed, reported the YPG on June 1. Furthermore, Turkish gangs attacked the Basufan village with mortars in Efrin’s Şêrewa district. Another attack near Îska village in Efrin’s Cindirêsê district was repelled YPG forces, where 3 attackers were confirmed killed.

On May 30, a Turkish soldier deliberately fired at a combine harvester belonging to a civilian from Koran village in eastern Kobane. YPG forces directly responded to the attack. There were no immediate informations on possible casualties.

On the same day near Efrin, Turkish army-related gangs targeted Îska and Celemê areas in Efrin’s Cindirêsê district. They faced a YPG forces. The YPG is reportedly working at gathering further details about this latest attack.

Turkey considers the Syrian – Kurdish PYD party and its military wings, the YPG and the all-female YPJ as terrorist organizations on par with the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK).
