Turkish jets bomb PKK bases in Iraq

Eight F-16 fighter jets took off from Diyarbakir Airbase around 11:45 p.m. local time (2145 GMT) on Wednesday. They bombed PKK camps and targets in the Qandil and Zap regions of northern Iraq, English-language daily Today’s Zaman reported on Thursday.

No casualties were reported following the airstrikes.

The operations were launched after intelligence collected by Turkish military drones showed the presence of PKK members in the areas.

PKK has been fighting for an autonomous Kurdish region inside Turkey since the 1980s. The conflict has left tens of thousands of people dead.
