Sydney’s Kesser Torah College and Mt Sinai College school choirs made an international singing debut in last week’s first Boys Town Jerusalem (BTJ) International Virtual Choral Festival.
For the past 13 years, the annual Boys Town Jerusalem Choral Festival, in support of the Israeli school’s underprivileged students, has been held in London. This year, the pandemic compelled the creation of a “virtual” festival, opening the event to participation by choirs from Jewish Day Schools across the globe.
The young Mount Sinai singers, under the baton of Elana Shateri, presented a medley of songs of hope, while KTC’s Boys Choir performed the song “Avinu Malkenu.” Ilana Kaplan, BTJ’s Australian Development Coordinator, noted that the KTC and Mt Sinai singers were joined in the festival by school choirs from England, South Africa, Hong Kong, the United States and Israel.
Ilana Kaplan expressed special thanks to The ORAH Fund, under the direction of Carole Pillemer and Dean Weinbren, the Event Sponsors of the landmark BTJ International Festival which drew a rapt audience on five continents.

Since its founding in 1948, BTJ has pursued its mission of turning young boys from limited backgrounds into young men with limitless futures.
