UK embassy in Cairo issues urgent visa to relatives of slain Egyptian national

TCP : British ambassador in Cairo John Casson said that help has been offered to issue entry visa to the UK to the family of the Egyptian national who was found in his burnt-out car at a garage in London.

In a tweet, Casson said that he “expressed condolences to the family of University of Greenwich’s 21-year-old mechanical engineering graduate Sherif Adel Habib.”

On Tuesday, Habib died upon arrival to a Sussex hospital hours after was found burnt at a garage in Cranleigh Gardens, South Hall, west of London early Monday, state news agency MENA reported.

On Wednesday, the Egyptian foreign ministry contacted the British Embassy in Cairo to accelerate issuing visa for any member of the Habib’s family to travel to the UK to follow up the case.

The British embassy immediately accepted applications forms of a number of his family members who are scheduled to travel to the UK Thursday.

In an official statement, the British embassy in Cairo asserted that it was following up reports on the murder.

Egypt calls on the British authorities “to give due diligence to and intensify investigation into this mysterious incident in order to establish its causes, identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” a presidential statement said Tuesday.

Spokesman for the British Embassy in Cairo said in a statement the “metropolitan police are working hard to unveil the reasons behind Habib’s death.”

Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid said the case has yet to be referred to the prosecution body.
