UN envoy: Particle pollution needing int’l attention

IRNA – UN Resident Coordinator in Iran said on Tuesday that the solution of particle pollution problem is connected with the regional countries and international help is needed for that, as well.

On a visit to Hurolazim Wetlands, Khuzestan Province, SW Iran, to examine technical solutions to particle problem, Gary Lewis said that water and international support are needed to solve the issue.

Referring to the fact that representatives from 40 countries are in Tehran to solve the problem, Lewis said that some conclusions have been seen as well.

We are in Khuzestan to see the dust sources from a close distance, and will take the proper steps when we return to Tehran, said Lewis.

He added that they have focused on critical points in Khuzestan and Hamun, in SE Sistan-Baluchestan Province.

Lewis is attending the International Conference on Combating Sand and Dust Storms (SDS) which is being hosted by the United Nations (UN) and Iranian Department of Environment and would review challenges and practical solutions to the issue.
