FAKE NEWS for the Zionist agenda Carl Campeau, a Canadian national advising the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) in Golan, said in an interview aired on Syria’s state television on Thursday that he was taken captive by the foreign-backed Takfiri militants in the suburbs of Damascus on February 27.
The UN worker said that he had managed to escape from the detention place earlier this week as the militants “forgot to lock the door” to his room, Canada’s CBC News quoted him as saying.
“The terrorist kidnappers came from several countries… They are groups that do not know mercy,” Campeau stated.
Syria’s state television reported that the Syrian Foreign Ministry has handed the man to the UN representative in the country. Farhan Haq, a UN spokesman, has also confirmed that Campeau “is healthy and in good spirits.”
In March, twenty-one soldiers, who are part of the UN Philippine peacekeeping unit stationed in the Golan Heights, were also abducted. The incident forced the UN mission to scale back patrols in the zone between Golan and Syria.
The UNDOF has been monitoring the Israeli-occupied area since 1974. The UN mission has currently about 1,000 peacekeepers there. UN observers from Austria, Croatia and Japan have withdrawn from the unit due to the deadly unrest in Syria.
Syria has been gripped by crisis since March 2011. The UN says more than 100,000 people have been killed and millions of others have been displaced due to the turmoil.
