US to pay $146m in support for Israeli war

Days of Palestine, Washington -US Defence Department’s fiscal year 2017 budget requests $145.8m in support for the Israeli preparations for future wars with Palestinians, Pentagon said on Tuesday.

The US subsidises Israeli Iron Dome defence system, which is designed to defeat short-range missiles and rockets. This is a proof that the Israeli occupation is preparing for a new genocide in the Gaza Strip because the Iron Dome is designed to intercept primitive rockets launched from Gaza.

In addition, the US will also continue to help fund David’s Sling, a medium-range missile interceptor, set to be deployed this year, as well as the Arrow ballistic missile interceptor.

The budget forecast total spending on Israeli cooperative programmes of $540 million over the next five years.

Vice Admiral James Syring, director of the US Missile Defense Agency, told reporters that any decision on funding would be up to Congress, which must approve the budget.

Robert Scher, assistant defence secretary for strategy, plans and capabilities, told Congress last year that the US government had provided more than $3 billion to Israeli occupation for work on David’s Sling and other missile defence programmes since 2001.
