Collaborates in ‘Venezuela I’ Case.
The International Criminal Court (ICC), in its annual report, confirmed the deposit of evidence by Venezuelan authorities regarding the lawsuit (Venezuela II) against United States officials for committing crimes against humanity as a result of the blockade and the coercive measures imposed on the Caribbean country.
The information was released by the Foreign Affairs Minister of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza, who indicated that the ICC continues to study the demand made by the Venezuelan government.
“In her annual report, the #CPI Prosecutor confirms that she received the voluminous report from Prosecutor G @TarekWiliamSaab, as part of the cooperation. It also continues to study our lawsuit against US officials for crimes against humanity as a result of the sanctions, “the Chancellor wrote on his Twitter account.
In that report the ICC reiterated that with respect to Venezuela I, the prosecutor concludes “that there is a reasonable basis to believe that” in 2017 “crimes within the jurisdiction of the Court were committed.” The execution of these alleged crimes would involve the PNB, SEBIN, DGCIM, FAES, CICPC, GNB and CONAS, all security forces of the Venezuelan State.
Opposition operators, influencers and the “free press” made a big media show trying to portray the announcement as a new development in this case, when in reality it was just an annual report made by the ICC with a new element that recognized the cooperation of Venezuelan authorities in the Venezuela I case.

For her part, the Executive Vice President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, reiterated that “Venezuela advances in its lawsuit against US government authorities who, through the criminal blockade, systematically attack the Venezuelan people.”

The Attorney General, Tarek William Saab, issued a statement in which he welcomes that the report on the 2020 Preliminary Examination Activities, presented this December 14 by the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, has shown that the institution he represents and the Venezuelan State is collaborating with this international legal body.

“This decision shows that the Venezuelan institutions are taking all the necessary steps and meeting all the requirements of the Prosecutor’s Office in a timely manner, and therefore, is evidence of their firm willingness to collaborate, as is perfectly outlined in this preliminary report and thus will continue to be done,” reads part of the statement.
