Victoria Police are launching a criminal investigation into Frankston MP Geoff Shaw’s alleged misconduct in public office.

An ombudsman’s investigation in October found he had used his taxpayer-funded car for commercial purposes.

A whistle-blower had accused Mr Shaw of using parliamentary entitlements, including the car and fuel cards, to benefit his personal hardware business.

Opposition MP Martin Pakula says the issue is embarrassing for the Victorian Government.

“[Premier] Ted Baillieu should have months ago given Geoff Shaw the boot from the Coalition party room,” he said.

“Every day that Geoff Shaw stays in the Liberal Party Room tarnishes the image of the Government.”

The ABC has sought a response from the Government.
