(Video) Vegan Eating Is Set To Be 2018’s “Mega Trend”

Next Story

Veganism is on the rise. Between our gradual shift toward eating more plant-based foods and our increased awareness of the horrors of factory farming, more and more people are turning away from animal products in an effort to improve both their own health and that of the environment. In fact, data gathered by market research group 1010 Data has revealed sales of plant-based products have increased nearly three times since 2016. Given our increased demand, this is hardly surprising; the more popular plant-based eating becomes, the more options will be made available for vegans and non-vegans alike. Maybe everyone is not going full-on vegan, but people are definitely choosing more plant-based options.

Plant-Based Sales Will Continue to Rise

What’s more, new research has predicted plant-based sales will continue to rise in 2018, becoming the year’s top trend. Considering the many benefits these foods have to offer, however, it seems likely this trend will simply become part of our standard diets. The report outlines the instance of vegan-related Google searches increased by a massive 90% and the instance of plant-based eating among Americans increased by 83%. Those numbers are huge.

The report also highlighted how consumers are consistently requesting plant-based options and companies are now responding in order to keep up with the growing demand. It is predicted that in 2018, restaurants will continue to provide even more vegan options, and up-and-coming vegan restaurants will seek higher level investors; can you say gourmet vegan, anyone?

The report attributes our shift in behaviour to the fact that “consumers are getting more conscious. They’re mindful of the products they put in and on their bodies and the environmental impact they have. As this consciousness increases, manufacturers are taking note.”

This Isn’t About Becoming a Vegan

I’ve mentioned this in many of my previous articles, but I’ll say it again: You don’t have to be vegan to enjoy plant-based foods or eat less meat, and even small changes have big impact. It’s not all or nothing, and this is why I prefer the term plant-based diet over veganism; it’s more inclusive and less intimidating. We can all do our part to protect the animals, our environment, and ourselves. It starts with YOU!

These Times Are Changing

I hope this serves as a powerful reminder to anyone who believes we can’t effect positive change in our world. This trend proves that, with enough awareness, we can make a difference.

Much Love
